Genesis has been called the “seed plot of the Bible.” The reasons for this are obvious to anyone studying the book. In it, the fundamental doctrines of Christianity are either introduced or pictured in types. From Genesis we learn about creation, the fall, sin, substitutionary atonement, the covenants with Noah, Abraham, the birth of Israel as a nation and promises about its future. The subsequent four books of Moses (together with Genesis, called the Pentateuch) all carry these themes forward, and the New Testament as well is built on this doctrinal bedrock. If Genesis is removed from the Bible, nothing of the other 65 books makes sense.
